Lucas Oil Stadium

lucas oil stadiumThe Lucas Oil Stadium is the new home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. This stadium replaces the RCA dome as the Colts new stadium.

The construction cost $720 million, and has some interesting features. It can hold 63000 poeple, and can be expanded to 70,000 for the super bowl or NCAA basketball.

The stadium was originally going to be called Indiana Stadium, but Lucas Oil bought the name “Lucas Oil stadium” for $120 million. That’s a lot of money to pay for a name.

There are two massive high definition scoreboards, each 30m wide * 16m tall, in two corners of the stadium.

The stadium has a mechanized retractable roof, which can close and open in only ten minutes. It also has the world’s largest movable window, which is 74m wide * 27m tall, and can be closed just to give light, or be opened to give the stadium a more open atmosphere.

Oh, and the Bears played great in the opening game, smashing the Colts 29-13. Not a good start for the Colts in their new home grounds.
